Most Misunderstood Illnesses in Cats

Cats are masters at hiding discomfort, making feline illnesses easy to overlook. Some of the most misunderstood conditions include:

  • Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): Common in older cats and often unnoticed until advanced stages.
  • Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD): Causes painful urination and can become life-threatening without quick veterinary intervention.
  • Hyperthyroidism: A frequent but easily treatable condition that leads to weight loss despite increased appetite.
  • Dental Disease: Often underestimated; poor oral health can lead to systemic illness.
  • FIV and Leukemia (cats)

Our team provides early detection exams and customized care plans for these and other conditions. Send us a message: +52 (322) 206-3509

Most Misunderstood or Common Illnesses in Dogs

Dogs are usually more vocal about discomfort, but even experienced owners can miss early signs of:

  • Canine Parvovirus (Parvo): Highly contagious and deadly without immediate veterinary care. (mostly puppies under 6 month)
  • Heartworm Disease: A silent killer preventable with regular medication. Transmitted by Fleas and Ticks
  • Hip Dysplasia: Common in larger breeds but manageable with early diagnosis and therapy.
  • Ear Infections & Allergies: Often mistaken for behavioral problems but easily treated with professional care.

At Dog & Cat Puerto Vallarta, we educate owners about prevention, early warning signs, and available treatments for all of these conditions.

Traveling to Mexico with Your Dog: What You Need to Know

Bringing your dog to Mexico is easier than many expect, but only if you come prepared. At Dog & Cat Puerto Vallarta, we help travelers confidently navigate the process, ensuring your dog meets every requirement to enter the country smoothly.

Requirements for Entering / Leaving Mexico with a Dog:

  1. Health Certificate (optional but recommended):
Mexico no longer requires a USDA-endorsed certificate for dogs arriving from the U.S. or Canada, but traveling with a recent health certificate from a licensed vet is still strongly advised.
✔ Dog & Cat can help your dog enter or exit Mexico smoothly.
  2. Up-to-date Vaccinations:
Your dog must have proof of a valid rabies vaccine, and additional core vaccines (like DHPP) are highly recommended.
✔ Dog & Cat can update your pet’s vaccines and issue proper documentation for travel.
  3. Clean and Parasite-Free:
Dogs must arrive clean, healthy, and free of ticks and fleas. SENASICA (animal health authorities) will perform a visual inspection at the airport.
✔ Dog & Cat offers pre-travel grooming and parasite treatments to ensure your dog meets visual health standards.
  4. Microchip (recommended, not required):
Microchips are not required for entry into Mexico, but they are strongly encouraged for safety, identification, and international travel continuity.
✔ Dog & Cat provides microchipping services and registration assistance.
  5. No Quarantine:
If all entry conditions are met, your dog does not need quarantine in Mexico. You’re free to explore and enjoy your stay.
✔ Dog & Cat is here for post-arrival checkups or emergencies during your stay.
