Puerto Vallarta has grown into a hub for beauty and wellness treatments over the years, attracting both straight and LGBTQ+ communities. People flock here not just for the beaches and vibrant culture but also for top-quality aesthetic services at very competitive prices.
As a certified nurse practitioner and aesthetician, I opened Puerto Vallarta Aesthetics, the city’s first mobile aesthetic service, in January 2021. My goal is to provide my clients with the joy of looking and feeling their very best. My mobile service allows clients to receive superior, high-quality treatments in the comfort of their own homes, vacation rentals, or wherever they feel most at ease.
For those considering aesthetic treatments for the first time, here are the basics in a nutshell.
Neurotoxins vs. Dermal Fillers: What’s the Difference?
While both are popular, the fundamental difference is how they work:
- Neurotoxins (e.g., Botox) relax facial muscles, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The full results can take up to a month to see.
- Dermal Fillers add volume, plumping the skin to smooth lines and wrinkles and restore lost volume. The results are immediate.
Each treatment has its benefits and is suited for specific cosmetic goals. This is why it is vital to have a consultation to discuss what is best for you.
Top Tips to Make Your Botox Last Longer
- Choose an Experienced Practitioner: Proper dosing and placement are crucial for effective results. The quality of the neurotoxin is concurrent with its effectiveness. Don’t go the budget route for your neurotoxin. You always get what you pay for!
- Avoid Rubbing Your Face and Cardio Vascular Exercise: Refrain from touching the treatment area and skip cardio for at least 12 hours after treatment. Botox needs to stay in your muscles to work effectively.
- Stay out of the Sun. Sun damage can worsen wrinkles, so use a good SPF sunscreen after treatment.
- Be Patient: Full results can take up to two weeks.
When to Use Botox vs. Fillers
- Botox is fabulous for addressing crow’s feet, frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and more. It can also treat TMJ (teeth grinding and clenching), excessive sweating, migraines, and sometimes depression symptoms.
- Fillers are more effective for adding volume to cheeks, lips, marionette lines, and cheekbones and smoothing out deeper lines on the face immediately.
What Lasts Longer?
Botox results typically last 3-5 months.
Good quality Fillers (which I use) can last from 12 to 18 months.
Which Is Better: Botox or Fillers?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer; it depends very much on your desired outcome, treatment areas, preferences, and lifestyle choices. A thorough consultation and facial mapping will determine the best approach tailored to your needs.
